Aalborg University in New, Ambitious, Sound Partnership

A strong sound incubation environment – Sound Hub Denmark – is ready to be rolled out. The cluster will be home to entrepreneurs, researchers and established sound companies and will create the world's leading sound development center, increasing the number of entrepreneurs and workplaces

A total investment of DKK 50 million for Sound Hub Denmark has been secured, and the new sound incubation environment, which is part of AAU, is ready to reinforce Denmark’s strong position in sound and acoustics. Sound Hub Denmark is set to attract companies and partners from all over the world and create the world's leading sound development center. In addition to Aalborg University, Sound Hub Denmark, located in Struer, currently includes Struer Municipality and internationally leading audio companies such as Bang & Olufsen and Samsung-owned Harman Lifestyle.

Fertile ground for entrepreneurship, growth and jobs

Sound Hub Denmark enables the actors involved to share knowledge, skills and unique test facilities with businesses, entrepreneurs and institutions, preparing the ground for further entrepreneurship, growth and jobs.

Torben Larsen, Vice Dean for Research at the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, is looking forward to Sound Hub Denmark soon becoming a reality:

– It is important to have a national cluster for sound, audio, signal processing and related fields. In Denmark, we have very strong expertise in audio, image processing, virtual reality, gaming, hearing aids, etc., and we must leverage that.

According to Torben Larsen, the university expects that being part of Sound Hub Denmark will strengthen industrial collaboration as well as increase the number of start-up businesses based on innovative Master's and PhD projects. In addition, access to new laboratories and large amounts of measurement data from real systems could inspire researchers and students to take on new, challenging, societally relevant issues.

Incredibly strong starting point

The Director of Sound Hub Denmark A/S is Peter Petersen, formerly Technology Director of Bang & Olufsen and in the last several years director of the development parks Business Park Struer and Nupark in Holstebro.

– This funding is an important milestone for the project. And we now have two global sound brands plus Aalborg University with its internationally recognized research and education in acoustics and signal processing – an incredibly strong starting point for attracting the right players and making Sound Hub Denmark a success, he says.

In addition to entrepreneurs, Sound Hub Denmark also aims to attract teams or divisions from existing sound companies to the cluster.

Danish Sound Network is already part of Sound Hub Denmark. The network’s contributions include seminars for specialists, conferences, hackathons and collaborative projects with universities, companies and organizations in Denmark and abroad.

Sound Hub Denmark opens it doors later this year with fully updated rooms, equipment and facilities.
